About Subject and Classrooms
- With a degree in Spanish, Italian and French and then qualifying as a teacher in 2011, I have taught Modern Foreign Languages from Primary up to A Level, SQA qualifications and the International Baccalaureate. I have taught Modern Languages for these past ten years, as well as spending two very happy years teaching English and Maths in an independent prep school. I am therefore au fait with requirements for independent school Entrance Exams. DBS/PVG checked. I am also an examiner for IB Standard Level. I prioritise interaction in the target language to boost speaking skills and aim to develop a repertoire of high level, concise language in which the student develops confidence using, maximising his or her ability in essay writing, spoken answers, translation and comprehension. A common difficulty with modern language learning is that students can feel overwhelmed by the quantity of knowledge they are supposed to have, not only linguistic but also cultural in the case of A Level. I have been there! It is all about identifying language which enables them to shine and express their ideas confidently, clearly and with an ever-increasing amount of fluency. Some tutoring can add to the student's workload. This seems counter-intuitive. What my tutoring aims to achieve is all about capitalising on the student's current knowledge and building confidence.
